As humans we are wired for connections both internal and external. Today I discuss my thoughts on an important internal connection.
As humans, we are all about connections. We connect with places. We connect with things. We connect with the greater world around us in multiple ways.
Perhaps more importantly, we connect with other people and ourselves.
Have you ever thought about all the connections inside of us as humans?
We have bone connections. Sinew. Veins and nerves. Muscle. Organs. And of course our largest organ holding all of this together, our skin.
What about our external people connections?
Family. Friends. Associates. Work. Social organizations. Social networking groups, online and in person. We have so many different connections!
The connection I want to talk about today is our internal mind connections.
Internal mind connections are the connections between our conscious and unconscious thoughts.
Let's begin by defining concious and unconscious.
Acording to a Psychology Today article found at: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/unconscious
"The unconscious is the vast sum of operations of the mind that take place below the level of conscious awareness. The conscious mind contains all the thoughts, feelings, cognitions, and memories we acknowledge, while the unconscious consists of deeper mental processes not readily available to the conscious mind."
Is it possible to control what goes into our unconcious minds to bring about desired results in our conscious thoughts?
The short answer is...yes!
How?
A common method of controlling this is through a method that is commonly called positive self-talk. As Louisa Richards writes in her online article at MedicalNewsToday.com, What is Positive Self Talk which was published March 18, 2022, "Positive self-talk is an internal dialogue that makes a person feel good about themselves. A person can use positive self-talk to think optimistically and feel motivated. Identifying negative self-talk is the first step toward thinking more positively."
Further, she goes on to write, "A person’s communication with themselves is called self-talk or internal dialogue. It is a natural cognitive process. People might engage in self-talk more when they face obstacles or challenges. People use self-talk either silently or speak to themselves out loud."
How you can use this to make good connections in your own mind.
Making positive connections in your own mind is super important to your happiness. You can accomplish these connections through positive self-talk.
Remember to tell yourself all the good things about yourself on a regular basis. Not only about yourself, but also about the world around you! We get so wrapped up in the negative new of the day sometimes that it becomes nearly impossible for our unconscious minds to bring out the good things.
What I'm saying is, put more good in than bad. I've heard it said that you need 10 positive things put in for every 1 negative thing. If that's the case, we all have a lot of work to do to get the positive coming out that we need to build positive connections in our minds.
Here are a few positive self-talk affirmations you can begin using today to build positive connections in your mind.
I am important.
I matter.
I'm good at (insert things you are good at).
I like (insert things you like).
I feel (insert positive feelings).
I can (insert the thing you want to accomplish).
And that is how we begin building positive connections inside our mind that we can use to become happier and more successful.
Until next time, my friends, build those positive connections!
