If you start doing something and it doesn't seem to be working out, how long do you give it? How long do you keep trying before you give up on your dreams?
Keep doing what you're doing!
It can be hard at times. It can be downright unbearable at times.
To get through it, remember your why. Why did you start doing it? If that isn't a good enough reason for you, you didn't pick a big enough why.
Here are a couple of key things to keep in mind when picking your reason.
First, don't make your reason someone else's reason. Find YOUR reason. Let's say you decide you are going to quit smoking. For years you have had someone telling you that if you quit you will be more healthy. So, you try and quit because you want that person to think you are trying to be more healthy.
Problem. Health isn't something that is at the top of your priorities and because it's not, health doesn't work as YOUR reason. On the other hand, perhaps you are just tired of smelling like cigarette smoke. Perhaps your desire to smell better is actually the thing that will get you over the humps.
Go with a reason that means something to you. A reason that connects with your desires and goals for your life.
The second thing to keep in mind when picking your reasons is to make sure that what you think you want is actually something that YOU want.
Just like with the previous example, often times not only do we try to use the reasons that other people give us, we go straight to the desire itself.
Let's stick with smoking for our example.
You have probably heard it said that you won't quit smoking until YOU are ready. This is the truest statement ever!
If you are trying to do something because someone else wants it of you but you don't really want it for yourself, then you are playing a losing game. The quickest way to fail at ANYTHING is to do something that you don't even want to do.
Once you've found what it is that you want to do and know your strongest reasons for wanting it, write down the what and the why and put that somewhere you will see it daily. Perhaps you can even put it as a recurring reminder in your phone so that 4 or 5 times over the course of your day you will be reminded about what you are doing and why.
Once you have all of that in place, DO IT UNTIL!
Do it UNTIL you've got it done.
Do it UNTIL you've completed your goal.
DO it UNTIL you are HAPPY with the results.
Doing something UNTIL you have the desired results is the key. Do it...until.
Until next time!
