Yesterday’s post was about keeping score. Part of keeping score is noting what we did wrong, or didn’t do at all, and examining those things so that we can do them better next year.
As you can tell from that post, I am all about keeping it real. The good, the bad and the ugly.
That said, I think it’s important that we know that once we have reviewed the facts and come up with our new game plan, it’s important to let go of the past. I chose Tim Fargo’s quote for today because I feel like it sums up the situation perfectly.
“Mistakes should be examined, learned from, and discarded; not dwelled upon and stored.” Tim Fargo
Let the past go. Hold yourself accountable for the mistakes of yesterday. Hold your feet to the fire to do better but let the failures and shortcomings of yesterday go.
It’s easy to fall into self-pity and blame, but it is ultimately not profitable. It’s time to move on.
After you have written all your failures and mistakes down and used them to figure out the steps you need to take to NOT repeat them by setting definite goals in place, you must move on.
Before moving on, however, I think another important part of scoring is recognizing the points we gained. It’s just as important to see what we DID do right and make sure we know HOW we did it!
So, today I think it would benefit you to sit down and write down all the good things you did and the blessings you have experienced over the past year. I know Thanksgiving is past, but we should practice gratitude year-round!
Once you have that list written down and you know exactly what you did right and how to incorporate those things into 2023, take the time to celebrate!
Celebrate your successes. Celebrate your life! Celebrate the fact that you are gearing up to make your life better over the next five years than it was over the past five years!
“Learning to celebrate success is a key component of learning how to win in the market.” Douglas Conant
Celebrate and keep doing the good stuff!
